Happy New Year's everyone! The grand opening of the Phoenix Ayslum was a huge success! I can't wait to see what they come up with! The underground art movement in Boulder is alive and well on the Lower East Side!

The Phoenix Asylum, Boulders' newest art collective, is hosting a Grand Opening New Years Eve party. Just steps away from the BurnWorks, in the Lower East Side Fire Arts District.

Bike Porn 2 - Rev. Phil does Boulder

Rev. Phil and his traveling pornocopia of bike film shorts came to the BurnWorks last night and presented to a packed house. We were treated to a special burlesque performance by Whisky Breath Burlesque.

A Boulder contingent of Cruiser delegates will be making their way to the Denver Cruiser Ride tonight. It's been awhile since we've been down to cruise in D-town so it should be fun. It will be interesting with all the DNC hoopla this week and Denver Cruiser Brad has promised a secret route with free beer. We're in!

Back to the Burn

We will be hosting a Boulder Recompression Party tomorrow night. Please join us for some live music, food, drink, discussions about art, the Burning Man festival and Community volunteering. We will also have LOTS of costumes for sale that will directly benefit BLAST, which is a local community volunteer organization.

Burn on the Bayou recap

Last night we had 14 people from the Boulder community join us to watch Burn on the Bayou. The movie documented the efforts of a group of Burning Man participants who traveled to Louisiana because they felt the need to do something in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.

Upon arrival in Biloxi, the group rebuilt a local Buddhist temple and gave the local residents hope. Out of their efforts was born, Burners without Borders, a loose knit organization of Burners that extend their volunteering past the borders of Black Rock City.

After the viewing of the movie, we discussed what we could do in and around Boulder. Helping the homeless, helping the elderly, food drives, community beautification projects, helping low income families, environmental cleanup, etc. Art, Community and the Environment were the three main topics of discussion.

Log on to Boulder Burns for the full recap that will be posted today. The BurnWorks will be showing the movie again next Tuesday at 7:00pm with another community discussion at 8:30 on how we can get involved in our own community. Thanks to all that came out!

Burn on the Bayou - Screening and Discussion Tonight

Hot on the tail of Action Girls recent post about the Burners Without Borders.... There will be a free screening of Burn on the Bayou followed by an open forum discussion on how we can take some of their ideas and actions and run with it right here in Boulder.

Some thoughts and ideas are already flowing, public art, food drives, clean up and beautification projects, the possibilities really are endless. And of course this will all be done with a burner flair and creativity. If you have ideas, or want to get involved, or just want to come watch the movie, this is for you.

FREE and open to all ages TUESDAY MARCH 25TH - 7:00PM - 10:00 BurnWorks - 4747 Pearl - Unit N+1 (Just a few doors east of Swedish Motors, look for bikes) Bring snacks and bevies if desired, a camp chair or something to sit on will help make you comfortable. If you can't make it but want to learn more, stay tuned to this station.

About the film:

At the end of August 2005, Hurricane Katrina slammed into the Louisiana and Mississippi coasts devastating over 90,000 square miles and causing $120 billion in damage. 2000 miles away, a group of volunteers emerged from an event in the Nevada desert. Well suited for helping in a harsh environment where the normal infrastructure had washed away, the group that converged in Biloxi and Pearlington, Mississippi had one thing in common: Burning Man.
