Bike Porn 2 - Rev. Phil does Boulder

Rev. Phil and his traveling pornocopia of bike film shorts came to the BurnWorks last night and presented to a packed house. We were treated to a special burlesque performance by Whisky Breath Burlesque.

Movie Night and BLAST meeting

This Tuesday at 7pm, join BLAST (Boulder Local Action Support Team) for a discussion and movie night on the projector. We'll discuss BLAST status and swap ideas for our next project (art, charity, good works, mischief?)

This is a documentary about modern corn farming in America's Corn Belt (Iowa). Two friends grow 1 acre of corn and learn about the history, process, and economics of corn. They follow it into the fuel, feed, and food supply to see where the corn really goes.

Burn on the Bayou recap

Last night we had 14 people from the Boulder community join us to watch Burn on the Bayou. The movie documented the efforts of a group of Burning Man participants who traveled to Louisiana because they felt the need to do something in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.

Upon arrival in Biloxi, the group rebuilt a local Buddhist temple and gave the local residents hope. Out of their efforts was born, Burners without Borders, a loose knit organization of Burners that extend their volunteering past the borders of Black Rock City.

After the viewing of the movie, we discussed what we could do in and around Boulder. Helping the homeless, helping the elderly, food drives, community beautification projects, helping low income families, environmental cleanup, etc. Art, Community and the Environment were the three main topics of discussion.

Burn on the Bayou - Screening and Discussion Tonight

Hot on the tail of Action Girls recent post about the Burners Without Borders.... There will be a free screening of Burn on the Bayou followed by an open forum discussion on how we can take some of their ideas and actions and run with it right here in Boulder.

Some thoughts and ideas are already flowing, public art, food drives, clean up and beautification projects, the possibilities really are endless. And of course this will all be done with a burner flair and creativity. If you have ideas, or want to get involved, or just want to come watch the movie, this is for you.

FREE and open to all ages TUESDAY MARCH 25TH - 7:00PM - 10:00 BurnWorks - 4747 Pearl - Unit N+1 (Just a few doors east of Swedish Motors, look for bikes) Bring snacks and bevies if desired, a camp chair or something to sit on will help make you comfortable. About the film:

At the end of August 2005, Hurricane Katrina slammed into the Louisiana and Mississippi coasts devastating over 90,000 square miles and causing $120 billion in damage. 2000 miles away, a group of volunteers emerged from an event in the Nevada desert. Well suited for helping in a harsh environment where the normal infrastructure had washed away, the group that converged in Biloxi and Pearlington, Mississippi had one thing in common: Burning Man.

Crude Awakening at Boulder BurnWorks

This art piece was the brainchild of Bay Area artists Dan Das Mann and Karen Cusolito. A 99-foot-tall wooden oil derrick around which stand eight metal sculptured human figures, most of whose surfaces are made of connected metal rings, each designed with their own different participant-activated fire effects via propane tubing. The statues are 540 percent of the size of a normal human.

Late Saturday night in Black Rock City the derrick was ignited in a spectacular 1,000-foot column of flame, primed by 900 gallons of jet fuel and fed by 2,000 gallons of liquid propane.
